Vancouver Gathering on the Third Anniversary of August 15

On August 17, 2024, the Activists Union organized a large and heartfelt gathering in Vancouver, Canada, marking the third anniversary of the fall of Afghanistan’s republic and the unlawful takeover by the Taliban terrorist group.
The event, attended by over a hundred conscious and justice-seeking citizens, members of the Union, civil society activists, and artists, served as both a moment of mourning and a declaration of resilience and unity.

Held under the title “The Fresh Wound of August 15 and the Unbroken Spirit of a Nation,” the gathering aimed to commemorate the immense suffering of the Khorasan/Afghanistan people under three years of Taliban rule while renewing the call for solidarity, awareness, and collective struggle for freedom and justice.

During the event, the Union’s official statement, titled “In the Name of the Almighty and the Spirit of Victory,” was read aloud. The resolution consisted of five main parts addressed respectively to the people, the United Nations, political opportunists, regional and global actors, and the Taliban terrorist group.

In its statement, the Activists Union firmly declared that the Taliban’s rule is illegitimate and inhumane, emphasizing that this group has crossed all moral, religious, and human red lines, extinguishing the nation’s hope for peace and dignity.
The Union called on the United Nations to recognize and criminalize gender apartheid as a crime against humanity, in light of the Taliban’s systematic persecution of women and girls, and demanded a halt to all engagement with terrorist forces.

Addressing the people of Khorasan/Afghanistan, the Union reminded citizens that “our generation faces a third test — the test of protecting our identity and our essence — and only through unity, awareness, and collective work can we overcome it with honor.”

The resolution also strongly warned those failed political figures who continue to promote exclusive and monarchic agendas, asserting that no political order other than a democratic, people-centered system can bring legitimacy or stability.
The Union stressed that the Khorasan/Afghanistan people will no longer allow their rights and destiny to be monopolized by any individual or ethnic faction.

Addressing regional and international actors, the statement declared that engagement with the people and support for a democratic republic is the only sustainable path toward shared security and peace, while any cooperation with terrorist groups endangers the entire world.

Finally, the Union’s message to the Taliban terrorist group was unequivocal:
“You have lost the opportunity for reform and legitimacy. The people of this land are now more united and determined than ever to end this era of tyranny and to build a free, bright, and human future for themselves.”

The event concluded with brief speeches and cultural performances by Union members, leaving behind a clear and resonant message:
The people are weary but unbroken — wounded yet determined — and victory belongs to a nation that refuses to surrender.
